Thanksgiving in El Dorado

November 26th, 2006 by barbara

We left right on time Friday (2 pm) to go to El Dorado to see the family. The drive went smoothly, except the dog gate to keep Amber and Lacey in the back fell twice, necessitating stops to reinstall it. We went to Margaret’s first and met Colleen, Mom and Dad and of course, Margaret and George. Laura joined us later after her duty at the Art Center was over. Colleen took Ted and Julia to Joe and Jane’s when she left.

Saturday was relaxing. A large group went out to shoot skeet and targets, etc. Jay got 4 ant bites when picking up skeet and got a reaction to the venom. It was noticable and if it had gotten any worse, he was going to consider using his epi-pen. So I guess bees and wasps aren’t the only thing to trigger an allergic reaction. We had dinner at Joe and Jane’s, chinese food ordered from their favorite restaurant and left over casseroles from Thanksgiving and desserts. Notre Dame didn’t do well last night, but the team had staunch supporters to the very end. The teens went to see “Borat” at the movies and Julia and Mike saw the current play, “Fruitcakes”, at the art center.

The dogs behaved and enjoyed visiting with the Huhner’s dogs all weekend. The dog gate didn’t fall once on the way home and Amber barely whined at all. We stopped at Diary Queen on the way home and all of the human’s had a treat.

We are looking forward to going back in a month for our family Christmas get together. Jeff will be home from the Army for two weeks and we will get to hear his army stories as well as seeing everyone else. It was a good trip, thanks to everyone in El Dorado who make us feel at home.

Thanksgiving dinner

November 24th, 2006 by Matt

Today we had a very nice Thanksgiving “dinner” (at noon-thirty). The food was delicious and it was great to get together with the entire local family and our guest and talk and catch up.

After dinner, we looked at some of the rental properties I am currently looking at as I plan to be moving to Dallas in January. We spread out the map and I showed everyone where the apartments were and discussed the pros and cons of my top picks.

Dessert was delicious. We had 4 different kinds of sweetness. The “Chocolate Mousse Tart” was not really all that good, seeing as is felt like eating a REALLY big brownie with some chocolate gel spread on the top. However, everyone loved Rachel’s homemade pumpkin pie and mom’s sweet pumpkin dessert (I have no idea what it is named) was also well enjoyed.

And I’m pretty sure that the thing in the lake is a homing beacon for the oncoming alien invasion!
