We have a date for the move, Bekins is our mover. Reality is setting in. May 4th is Jay’s last day at Legal Aid at NW Texas, LANWT. The packers from Bekins come the next Saturday, May 12th to pack the fragile and important items. Then the movers come to start loading on Monday, May 14th. I’m told it will probably take more than one day to load the van, and three days to drive. Delivery is scheduled for Friday, May 18th. That’s the plan anyway. We’ll see how closely reality matches the schedule.
I have been working at LANWT half days this week, helping Jay get his files in order to transfer to the next attorney. We have one week between Jay’s last day at work and the move, so we hope to get a lot done then. We have worked on the garage, last weekend but we still have more to do out there. I have been giving away and throwing away and packing. Brenda and Denise came to help me get started and spent the day on the 14th of April. They were a great inspiration, Thank you!
Ted graduates on May 29th. We will make the move, get some things unpacked and start to settle in, then drive back to Fort Worth for the graduation. Ted will need to be here during that week to be here for practice, etc. We’re not sure where he will stay, but we still have two weeks to figure it out.
No offers on the house yet. But I remain hopeful. The lake is up, thanks to all of the recent rain. We still have a few things left to do with the house, but the list narrows. I’m sure it will all come together in time.

As many of you have already heard through the grapevine, I have recently (and suddenly), moved from Arlington down to Austin a little less than a month ago.
I have a great new job that I am really enjoying that pays better than my promotion at the old job would have paid. I have an adorable house in a wonderful neighborhood. It’s a bit old and is a little lacking in the kitchen, but I’m loving it. I am in major need of a decorator and probably some more furniture, but it is already feeling like home.
I am even starting to build a social circle, albeit a bit slowly. I really like the people I work with, and we have a lot of fun up at work. This past week has been pretty slow, so we have spent a good amount of time having Nerf(tm) gun battles and playing ping pong. I’m fitting in well in to my team at work and I’m pretty sure everybody up there likes me.
Ok, ok… you have questions, so I’ll give you answers. My new company is called Rackspace. It’s another web hosting company, but this company is different in a lot of ways. First of all, the company is REALLY oriented towards giving great customer service all the time. Everyone from the CEO, to the founders, to the company lawyers are 100% devoted to fanatical support. We also host a lot more bigger sites than the old place. We cost a lot more, but provide so much.
Click here for a TV news story about my company.
Also, my job title is: “Level 2 Linux System Administrator”
That means that I log in to broken servers and fix them, or reconfigure them, or upgrade them, or whatever (within reason) the customer needs/wants done. Administrating Linux is done basically entirely via the command line (imagine MS Dos, except actually useful). So, lots of typing, no pointing and clicking. It’s good work and I’m learning a lot and still have a whole lot to learn. So, in other words, a perfect job for me.
That’s it for this update. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions for me. I’ll try to have some decent photos of the house soon for you.
